The King Street Marketing Group (KSMG) was launched by Susan Lucas and Gregg Hoffman in 2007 to brand and generate attention for Upper King Street in historic downtown Charleston, SC. Retail stores, salons, spas, restaurants, property management groups and elegant hospitality venues combined marketing resources, particularly on the Internet, to remain competitive with other business districts, both brick-and-mortar and virtual.
With support from the Francis Marion Hotel, developer PrimeSouth, the City of Charleston and the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the program strengthened Upper King Street businesses. In 2008 it grew to include Lower King and Middle King. Today KSMG's marketing initiative incorporates the entire Charleston Peninsula including the Aquarium Wharf, City Market and French Quarter Districts.
Frequent publishing of rich, relevant content with beautiful images makes KSMG's websites a popular attraction both for human readers and web search algorithms. Adding other features to the collaboration toolkit makes it a highly effective marketing program for many Charleston businesses. KSMG now offers traditional marketing elements like press releases, photography, email marketing and events for individuals and the group.
